Radio Merseyside was once worth listening to for most of the day, but the local personalities that made it so were all moved on or sacked. Billy Butler’s programmes were the most listened to on local radio outside of London. Specialist music programmes such as Spencer Leigh’s were removed during COVID, followed by Frankie Connor, Roger Lyon and Billy Maher. Today the local aspect of the station is minimal. There was a programme called The Late Beatles Show that tourists in Liverpool would have loved to hear as part of their local experience. The powers that be don’t have clue about the importance of local radio, in my opinion.
