The first station I worked for. I was fortunate I had a BBC local station open in my fairly small home town while I was in sixth form, otherwise I might not have ended up having a 34-year career with the BBC. Pretty sure MW went further than the dotted line – I used to cover stories as far north as Grasmere and regularly in Kendal and Windermere, where additional FM transmitters were added a few years later. The station has long been subsumed fully into BBC Radio Cumbria and the Barrow studio sold off. Curiously, the building’s new owners – the Labour Party – have named it Broadcasting House!
