Gerry Marsden was also responsible for the famous 194 Radio City news jingle.

Can somebody explain the lyrics in the hit song “Ferry Cross the Mersey”?
“So ferry, cross the Mersey
And always take me there
The place I love”
Is the place referred to, the destination of the ferry Liverpool or Birkenhead (or maybe Seacombe)?
But this is contradicted by the lyrics
“‘Cause this land’s the place I love
And here I’ll stay”
and
“So I’ll continue to say
Here I always will stay”
If the narrator wants to stay in Liverpool (or the other ferry destinations), why do they not stay where they are and take the ferry to foreign parts “over the water” re: “always take me there the place I love”.
Confusing, eh?
