Grampian at 60
30 September 2021 tbs.pm/74216
Grampian Television – the little ITV station that could – would’ve turned 60 today, had it not been swallowed alive by its larger but duller neighbour STV in 2006.
A new book of recollections of the station, written by Grampian personalities Graham Mcleish and Ted Brocklebank – The Way it Was: Grampian – The little TV station with the big reputation – chronicles the history of the company on and off screen and is available in paperback from Amazon for £12.99 at the time of writing and seems well worth a read.
Meanwhile, if you fancy staying here to read more about Grampian on its diamond jubilee, I recommend:
- This recreation of a Grampian daily start-up sequence from 1974
- Advice from the Aberdeen Evening Express in 1961 on what to look out for on the new service on launch day
- This celebration of 10 years on air and the arrival of colour from the same newspaper in 1971
- and this comparison of the bidders for the North of Scotland franchise in the ill-fated 1991 franchise battle.
And for your immediate listening pleasure…
