Routine Sheet Database

30 November 2018 tbs.pm/68031

A nettle finally grasped. We’ve been through and scanned nearly all the Transmission Routine Sheets in the Transdiffusion Archives, turned them into PDF files and bunged them up on a new website.

On the face of it, these are dull, dry documents giving a very, very detailed list of what was meant to happen on a given day in a given control room. Long lists of what adverts went out on LWT on 11 November 1973 nestle with exact programme timings for M Squad on ABC in January 1958.

Most of the files are incomplete in some way – it’s amazing that they survived at all, to be honest – but the Database is still a valid – and valuable – resource.

But what next? So far, we’ve transferred these sheets from a physical box covered in dust on to a virtual box. We’d like for that not to get covered in dust too.

Your suggestions for what to do with these scanned items – or indeed your own remixes and reuses of them – are most welcome. Although our team’s time, and Transdiffusion’s money, are limited. But don’t let that stop you coming up with ideas!

Hi, how about reconstructions of an evening’s continuity and adverts etc?

This is a good idea Bruce and may fit in to the recreations in vision, already done, of most regional ITV daily startup routines from the 1955-1985 period, on display in our tv features section and another 95 in sound only, on our separate SoundCloud
section.

Main problem would be creating the ads as many don’t survive and of course some announcers have passed away by now. But we will discuss it… thanks!
