Former TV colleague Lyn Spencer said Kathy was friendly and did not have a bad thing to say about anyone.

Lyn said: “I remember when Kathy first came to Tyne Tees.

“She had two young children and she was very lovely, very nervous, but keen to get on with the job.

“I was asked to show her the ropes and take her into Newcastle and get her wardrobe sorted because there were strict rules about what you could and could not wear.

“Kathy was very friendly, very down to earth, and hugely popular.

“She used to joke that he brought her children up on Marks and Spencer meals because the job was never 9 to 5 and there were a lot of unsocial hours.”
