I do not understand why people do not take vehicle number plates these days in order to assist the police in preventing crime. Shaw Taylor was very instrumental in inspiring all age groups to do so, but all people can tell police is that either “the vehicle was going too fast” or “I could not see the vehicle because it was dark”. These are nowt but out-dated clichés, and I think it is about time the public read vehicle number plates carefully & clearly before they tell the police and not to be so frightened in case they end up killed. The public must learn to try and change their script. I owe it greatly to Shaw for reminding viewers to “keep ’em peeled” when it comes to witnessing a vehicle either stolen or unduly driven away.

I seem to remember an Elkan Allan entry in the television listings which went something like ” Police Five….. Your chance to grass with Shaw Taylor.
Allan, I understand, was the doyen of TV reviewers but it seemed unnecessarily patronising at the time.
